Codes of Keeping

NASAHERP All Captive Reptiles & Amphibians Should Have:

 

  1. Ready access to fresh drinking water appropriate to the species being managed (i.e. water bowl, misting, or through ingested food)
     

  2. Ready access to a healthy and varied diet aimed to reflect the species natural food consumption as much as possible
     

  3. A habitat with ample room, hides, and resting areas
     

  4. Access to veterinary care to prevent and diagnose injury and disease
     

  5. An environment that aims to eliminate chronic stress
     

  6. A habitat design that promotes species-specific natural behavior. For example, climbing, digging, swimming, etc.
